However, it's important to note that it is regularly updated (when we have the accurate standings detail) and will be maintained based on the information that the coaches and the league provide. — Claeson & his dad, Ben, from Hayward

League rules
Used by league as of the 2026 season.
The Heart of the North Babe Ruth Association has adopted the rules governed by NFHS with the following exceptions:
Bats
Max weight differential is -5. Bats can have USSSA, USA or BBCOR certification.
Substitution
Team managers can elect to follow the standard NFHS substitution rules or bat their entire lineup and have free defensive substitution for all positions except the pitcher. If a manager elects to bat their entire lineup and a player is unable to continue at some point during the game, an out will be recorded in that spot of the batting order.
Pitcher substitution rules
A pitcher removed from the mound may only return to pitch in the same game if they were not physically removed from the field as part of a defensive time out.
Balks
There are to be 2 warnings given to each/every pitcher. After each warning the umpire/coaches will explain why the warning was called. On the 3rd warning the balk will be enforced.
Pitch count restrictions / mandatory rest
This will be managed by the honor system. It is suggested that each manager keep a record of pitch count in case of discrepancies.
- 1–30 pitches: 0 days rest
- 31–49 pitches: 1 day rest
- 50–75 pitches: 2 days rest
- 76–100 pitches: 3 days rest
Player eligibility
Only current year 7th and 8th grade students are eligible to participate in Heart of the North Babe Ruth. NO high school players are eligible to play, regardless of their current age.
Beginning in 2020: players are only eligible to play in the community they reside in or the district in which they attend school. If neither community offers a Babe Ruth team, the team that has their home plate the closest to the player's residence is the league the player is eligible to participate in.
